Nabo is an organization facilitating the education and empowerment of women affected by FGM through crowdfunding on the blockchain.

Female genital mutilation has been ongoing for years on end. With no actual benefit, it has continued to destroy the lives of vulnerable young girls involved, barely understanding the magnitude of the commitment they are indulging themselves in. All around the world, It has been a cultural practice in various communities that have thought it an ideal way to discourage young girls from indulging in premarital sex.

 

In Kenya Alone, around 4 million women, or one in five, women and girls have been subjected to FGM. In some communities, this rises as high as 94 percent. Although these numbers have declined over recent years, they remain much too high with at least 200 million girls and women alive today, living in 30 countries, undergoing FGM.

 

Our vision is therefore to partner with organizations that are already mitigating FGM and list them on our platform to help them acquire funds. In the long term, our mission is to empower women facing FGM all around the world through education and social-economic empowerment leaning on our values of integrity and diligence.

Our market differentiator compared to other crowdfunding platforms, is that we leverage blockchain technology to facilitate decentralized, streamlined, and traceable access to funding for organizations mitigating FGM. This means that we will be able to develop track records for the crowdfunding projects and the people who participate in them, hence improving transparency and Trust.

It is also worth mentioning that hosting our platform on the Harmony protocol will ensure we address the carbon footprint of the blockchain, as Harmony blockchain manages to keep its carbon footprint nearly non-existent thanks to its Proof-of-stake protocol.
